Why Red Ribbon Week?

We had a lot of fun this week and it was great to see everyone dressing up for the daily theme.  More importantly, I feel we all need to understand why we conduct a week dedicated to drug awareness.  According to a 2010 report from the White House, Montana ranks as a top ten state in several categories for drug use among people 12 and older.  I know this may come as a shocking revelation that people as young as 12 may be using drugs, which it why I want to reinforce the importance of being drug free.  We did a great job of getting the word out, but we need your help.  Please take a moment to have an age-appropriate conversation with your students about the dangers of drugs and encourage them to live drug free.  The Red Ribbon Project webpage has some good information to help guide your conversation.
